Bodyguard College

7 things and 7 principles to help you become a private bodyguard

Many times I am asked, "what is a good personal bodyguard?". The recruitment teacher in my bodyguard company receives resumes of various types of people every day. Each resume attempts to demonstrate their skills and experience, whether military, police or civilian, or business management. However, for every bodyguard in our bodyguard company, what personal qualities should they have when I hope to hold my customer's life in their hands? Let's look at the following factors: 1. Bodyguards need basic common sense. First of all, I think I'm looking for someone who wants to be a private bodyguard. I should have good common sense and excellent judgment. He / she must be smart, because this job is a game for thoughtful people. We need to work hard to keep our customers away from harm, which is finally achieved by using your brain to analyze the situation, anticipate and identify possible threats, and have the common sense needed to effectively apply your skills. Must have initiative and team spirit, because the bodyguard team must be a cohesive whole. When working as part of a team, the ability to work independently is equally important. In many tasks, you may be alone. One on one protection tasks are common, or you may only be assigned to a safe driver who always stays next to the vehicle. 2. Bodyguards need conditions. You must pay attention to details and maintain a good personal image - never try to dress better than customers, but know what clothes are suitable for your environment and suitable clothes. Bodyguards must have a positive and optimistic working attitude. Sometimes you will work for a long time and under great pressure. Demeanor is accompanied by a positive attitude - how you treat customers and, more importantly, how you always represent yourself in front of customers. You are always the closest person to the customer and often their direct representative. This keeps you "in place" and ready to take action if necessary. Physical health and strength are absolutely necessary for the implementation of appropriate protection tasks. I can prove that this work takes a lot of time to be vigilant against any danger. It will cause physical damage to your body every day. You must maintain your health and strength in order to survive correctly as a protector. You never know when an accident will happen and when you must put these physical qualities and strength into practice to free yourself and your protected persons from danger or specific situations. 3. It is always important to have a background in security and security procedures. Many times I have been asked, "do I have to be trained in military or special operations forces? Do I have to be a former law enforcement officer?" my answer has always been that it is good to have a solid formal background in the military or law enforcement, but it is not always the best or necessary. You have gained good life experience in dealing with dangerous situations as a policeman in combat or patrol, but it doesn't make you a qualified bodyguard. 4. Private bodyguards need formal bodyguard training. When reviewing my previous statement, I took this into account - many years ago, I was assigned to train for a police escort agency. Part of the training I conducted was in the process of simulating attacking customers, using marked weapons in the whole process. In formation protection, when the gun rings, they instinctively avoid and fight back, but let the protected stand still alone! Instinct is always a priority when it comes to stress, but in general, your response to any particular situation comes from a combination of instinct, life experience and training. Often, the value of your training is as much or more as your background. For example, I know someone who has no police or military background. In fact, his only experience was practicing Sanda in a martial arts college for three years. However, at the beginning of his personal bodyguard career, due to good and continuous formal bodyguard training, he has been the bodyguard of many domestic celebrities in the past decade. He has been living and working in a high threat environment and has done very well in this regard. Formal bodyguard training is a necessary process for the formation of private bodyguards. Like any career, your education and knowledge are your main tools to complete your tasks. 5. Bodyguards need basic medical knowledge. I suggest that one of the most important aspects of training for all who want to enter this field is that you need to have basic medical knowledge. At the very least, a bodyguard should receive CPR and basic first aid training. I recommend that anyone who wants to become a professional bodyguard receive training and certification as an emergency medical (TECC) technician. Most places can provide such training, and there are many bodyguard companies that provide such training. As a bodyguard, you are more likely to have a client's medical accident during your mission, and having a good medical background can save lives, even your own. 6. Good defensive tactical skills are needed. I rank them last because these skills are not the first choice in my protection motto, but they are often not involved in this field in my career of providing personal protection. Note that I'm talking about "defense skills" rather than "martial arts skills". Our bodyguard company receives many resumes and phone calls every day. They will immediately explain how many different martial arts backgrounds they have and how many different belts they hold. Although these are the necessary basic conditions for bodyguards, they are by no means the most necessary skills for bodyguards. I stress that if necessary, you really need to have a skill base to protect yourself and the protected, but this is not your main tool. Too many times clients and protectors think "I am proficient in all these martial arts, so you will be protected from harm". Based on your threat assessment and risk analysis, have you done everything possible to protect your customers from the threat of injury from the beginning, rather than waiting for the moment of "armed conflict". 7. Private bodyguards need firearms training, and finally firearms training. I once stressed that they should carry firearms only when permitted by law. China is a country that does not allow private people to hold guns through certification. However, internationally, many places can obtain weapons through Association certification, individual application and approval. If you intend to carry guns when performing protection missions overseas, you must receive formal bodyguard shooting training and, more importantly, have a license and permit to obtain permission. Finally, I encourage you to use the following seven rules. Take a moment to think about how they affect you and your bodyguard career, and how they affect your ability as a bodyguard and how to remain competitive in your career. 7 Rules of bodyguards 1. Assume nothing and question everything 2. Always stay with customers 3. Constantly review your scope of responsibility 4. Always have an action plan 5. Establish a firm positive image 6. Protect yourself in order to protect customers 7. Keep your mental state. Complacency and boredom are the source of any accident!
